8/24/2023 0 Comments Julia ducournau bodyVincent, too, suffers from self-imposed masculinity, as he injects steroids into his behind in a conspicuously pink-tiled bathroom. The comedic ease with which Shakespearean characters cross-dress is not so here – the effort to force the body to the form of the opposite sex is made explicit, as Alexia painfully binds her breasts and her pregnant belly, leaving marks and cuts on her skin. Vincent takes Adrien under his wing as a trainee firefighter, and as Alexia takes on this identity, the gender-bending almost resembles some perverse twist on a Shakespearean comedy. This is Titane’s turning point, as Alexia, deprived of a loving father figure, finds a father deprived of a child to love. Now on the run, Alexia adopts the persona of a long-lost boy called Adrien, presenting herself as male, with short hair, shaved eyebrows and banged-up nose to the police and Adrien’s father, Vincent. After murdering an over-obsessive fanboy when he tries to kiss her, she also kills a fellow stripper and all her housemates in a gleeful, bloody, and surprisingly funny murder spree (‘sorry, is the bathroom occupied?’). She cannot maintain human relationships – the tattoo between her breasts reads ‘LOVE IS A DOG FROM HELL’. Cut to present day, and Alexia maintains her erotic fascination with cars, becoming impregnated by a Cadillac and leaking black oil out of her vagina. She rushes to the same car, and lovingly kisses the drivers’ seat window. One brain surgery montage later, and Alexia emerges from hospital with a titanium plate in her brain – hence, Titane. Titane begins with an explanation of its title – we see our protagonist, Alexia, as a child, kicking the back of her negligent father’s seat until he turns around and the car crashes. " Titane is an incredibly visceral film, meant to be experienced sensorially (with the body) rather than critically (with the mind)” But under all its surreal, disturbing and incredibly uncomfortable moments (*ahem* the nipple-ripping and nose-breaking), Titane ends up having a surprisingly tender family drama at its core. It’s definitely controversial – online audience reviews show a telling clear split between one and five star ratings, and several people even walked out of the Cambridge Film Festival screening I saw. Directed by Julia Ducournau, Titane is a French body horror film in which – to put it bluntly – a serial killer stripper becomes pregnant with an oil baby she conceives via a Lynchian one-night stand with a Cadillac (yes, it’s a very strange scene). If you’ve been anywhere near the film world in the past year, you’ve probably heard of Titane.

Yet while our 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond are filled with very big transitions, we have no rituals to mark them. These beautiful rituals act as a rest stop for the soul they’re an opportunity for your community to hold a mirror to you and say, “Hey, you’re going through a big transition, and we’re here to support you.” Think about it: In the first 30 or so years, our lives are filled with ritual. My big ah-ha moment was when I realized the answer to these questions may have something to do with our lack of rituals in the second half of life. Why had my late 40s been so full of angst? Why do so many of us feel like we hit a low point as our 50th birthdays come into view? Thankfully, my near-death experience was a kind of divine intervention that led me down a path of exploration. Looking back on that time in my life now, I realize I was experiencing a low point-a veritable dark night of the soul. And my adult foster son was wrongly in prison. A flurry of friends had committed suicide. My long-term relationship had ended and not by my choice. I’d been running a company with 3,500 employees and realized I didn’t love my work anymore. The five years leading up to that point were some of the darkest of my life. I believe this was my experience of “seeing the light” when death was at my doorstep. And while the rest of my memories of that day are opaque, I can still see in my mind’s eye the dream-like image that was swirling around my brain when I woke up in that ER: thick, sweet, fragrant oil dripping down a set of beautiful, dark wooden stairs in slow motion. Louis would go on to tell me I flatlined a total of nine times over the course of 90 minutes. That is all I remember about the moments before my heart stopped.ĭoctors at an emergency room in St. A wailing siren and a soft, reassuring hand. 8/24/2023 0 Comments Unity art assetsYou can then access this copy from the Project window. Personally, I do think Apple Music has a better, more consistent UI. For all the people complaining about Spotify's UI, I see almost as many people complaining about Apple Music's UI decisions. It seemed to me there was an increase in bugs in Apple Music in the most recent iOS update. I frequent both the Apple Music and Spotify subs here on Reddit and also follow a lot of this on Twitter. Not surprisingly, the things that keep me personally gravitating to Spotify are playlist/music discovery and Spotify Connect. I naturally see which service I gravitate to. When I've done this, I copy my playlists over to Apple Music and then use the services at the same time. What I would recommend is, if possible, use both services side by side. In my experience both services have their own strengths (and weaknesses), it's just about what's important to you. However, if you really want a nice UI and better library and playlist management, go with Apple Music. If music discovery, using the service on multiple devices, and sharing playlists with others is your priority, definitely go with Spotify because those things are either non-existent or really limited in Apple Music. I think which service you use depends on how you use the service and what things are more important to you. Again, if you're listening to music on more than one device and like to seamlessly move between devices, this is a fantastic feature. This feature is a killer feature if you listen to Spotify on more than one device and aren't completely in the Apple ecosystem. I love that I can play Spotify through other speakers and devices but control it via my iPhone. Apple Music dosesn't have anything comparable. This is one of the BIG things that always draws me back to Spotify. On the other hand, I HATE all the annoying popups and promotions Spotify has for podcasts. On one hand, I love that I can mix up my queue with both podcasts and music. I will admit I have a love/hate relationship with podcasts in Spotify. I really enjoying queuing up a bunch of songs to listen to throughout my day. Queuing music is (IMO) better than it is in Apple Music. I can always find some sort of new music or playlist, whether it's finding a playlist someone posted here on Reddit, searching for a particular genre or year, or just randomly searching within the app for a new playlist. Music discovery is much better compared to Apple Music. It's easy to see titles to songs and such. The fact that it doesn't have podcasts integrated is sometimes a pro and sometimes a con. It has Lyrics!! I realize this shouldn't be a big deal, but with Spotify we're still waiting on lyrics. It's easier to find music, manage the music I've saved and downloaded, etc. It's really nice and has dark/light modes. Here's my perspective from having used both side by side: I've been primarily a Spotify user but have intermittently used/tried Apple Music several times this past year or two with the intent of possibly switching to Apple Music.
